This process of redefining of the social role had an effect on the recognition of the churches in Romania and on the social expectations toward these churches as well. As the instrumental functions come to the front the opinion gathered ground that the churches should be some sort of social service institutions. This fact is considered by many people, who belong to the inner circles of the churches as a devaluation and a crisis of the whole institution and they think that this new perception means the weakening of the traditional and authentic functions of the churches. This paper examines these processes in Romania. | |
