The paper examines the life and work of the society in an agrarian town on the Great Hungarian Plain. The rosary confraternity was principally an association of the peasantry. From the late 19th century the rosary increasingly became a form of women’s devotion and confraternity, the lower middle class and elderly women. The First World War brought rapid change.
