The investigation of the “vernacular memorial place” created by a bottom-up, grassroots movement throws light on the operation of the religious dimension of neonationalism, the origin of the new myths, as well as the characteristic complexity of ethnic paganism – at once neonationalist, pseudo-historical, seemingly Christian and neopagan – and its reception in the local culture.
