The investigated area, part of the Western Plain, is characterized by loess and clay deposits, low altitudes (90–120 m), and a temperate-continental climate with moderate precipitation (580–600 mm/year). Three soil types were analyzed: vertic gleic Chernozem, vertic Phaeozem, and amfigleic Eutric Cambisol. Morphological descriptions and laboratory analyses (pH, humus content, cation exchange capacity, base saturation, and carbonate content) revealed significant differences among soils. Chernozem exhibited high fertility but moderate gleization and localized sodicity. Phaeozem had superior humus content and cation exchange capacity, while Eutric Cambisol was limited by acidity and low phosphorus availability. The study confirms that climate, parent material, topography, groundwater, vegetation, biological activity, and anthropic interventions collectively shape soil properties. The results underline the need for site-specific management practices, including pH correction, organic and mineral fertilization, controlled drainage, and irrigation, to ensure sustainable utilization of the pedological resources in Pecica.
