| Tartalmi kivonat: | The Order of Vitéz was a newly established organization during the Horthy era, founded by Miklós Horthy. According to current research on the Horthy era, more than 27,000 individuals can be counted as members of the Order throughout this period, who were inducted into the Order during knighthood ceremonies. For this reason, the knighthood ceremonies can be considered one of the most important events of the organization. The aim of my research is to present and analyze how various contemporary press outlets reported on the knighthood ceremonies of the 1920s in terms of their detail and accuracy. In doing so, I aim to show how authentically the readers received the events and whether any media outlet displayed bias in its coverage. The main source for my research is contemporary press, from which I have selected six newspapers for analysis: 8 Órai Ujság, Az Est, Budapesti Hírlap, Friss Ujság, Népszava, and Pesti Napló. My selection criterion was to examine the reports from as many perspectives as possible. The content of the newspapers is complemented by the existing literature written on the subject. In the first part of my publication, I present the selected contemporary press organs, thus presenting their interpretative frameworks. This is followed by an introduction to the establishment of the Vitézi Rend and the general history of the ceremonial knighthood, particularly with regard to the 1920s. After laying the foundational knowledge required for understanding my analysis, I then present the investigation and its results. Finally, I summarize the key conclusions drawn from my research. |
