The effect of somatostatin on the self-stimulation of rats

In the present study the action of cyclic somatostatin on the self-stimulation of rats was investigated. After intracerebroventricular administration in a dose of 1μg/5 μl, somatostatin caused a transitory increase in the self-stimulation rate, which later returned to the control level. The injectio...

Tartalmi kivonat:In the present study the action of cyclic somatostatin on the self-stimulation of rats was investigated. After intracerebroventricular administration in a dose of 1μg/5 μl, somatostatin caused a transitory increase in the self-stimulation rate, which later returned to the control level. The injection of 5 μg/5 μl and 10 μg/5 μl peptide decreased the self-stimulation rate. These results suggest that cyclic somatostatin can influence the self-stimulation of rats in a dose-related fashion.
