Tartalmi kivonat:It is well known that in Hungarian the scopal order of preverbal constituents is the same as their linear order. Both GB and MP use mechanisms that derive scope from constituent structure directly, so this phenomenon is not a problem for these theories. HPSG, however, is a framework in which scopal order is independent from constituent structure. The aim of this paper is to show that it is possible to have rules that account for the connection between scopal order and linear order in this framework as well. The paper presents two solutions to connect constituent order and linear order in HPSG. The first one is for a hierarchical sentence structure, in which preverbal constituents appear in an unbounded dependency construction. The second one is for a completely flat sentence structure, in which every main constituent of the sentence is the sister of the verb.
