Livy’s well-known excursus reflects the contending attitude of the Romans towards Alexander. But how were the Greeks thinking about this question, who after the defeat of Pydna tried to evoke their glorious past through Alexander and his memory? This article tries to display how this aemulatio was discussed by the most celebrated Alexander-historian, Arrian of Nicomedia.
