| Tartalmi kivonat: | This article provides a detailed description of the modern state of the Northern Mansi language (<Ob-Ugric <Finno-Ugric <Uralic) in media and education and gives an overview of existing projects and resources aimed at support of the language. We analyze the sociolinguistic situation among the Northern Mansi, the presence of the native language in education at all levels, from kindergarden to university level, as well as its use in other organizations in the area where the language is spoken, on TV, radio and in newspapers, in cultural projects. Finally, we provide an outline of all current projects aimed at support of the Northern Mansi language, with special focus on the project of an online translator. Finally, we discuss the impact of these initiatives on the dynamics of language revitalization, summing up positive and negative tendencies influencing Northern Mansi language vitality and giving our outlook on the further development of the linguistic situation. The information provided in the article is based on extensive fieldwork and communication with members of the Northern Mansi community. |
