| Tartalmi kivonat: | In 2024, the European Parliament and the Council adopted Directive (EU) 2024/1203 on the protection of the environment through criminal law which determines minimum rules with regard to the definition of criminal offences and penalties in order to protect the environment more effectively. The new directive contains more detailed and severe regulation both in connection with the punishable conducts and the sanctions applicable to national and legal persons. The member states have to implement the provisions of the directive into their national legal systems by 21 May 2026. The paper aims to present the most important challenges posed by the new environmental directive of the European Union and tries to answer the question whether the Hungarian criminal law needs to be modified with regard to the new EU requirements. |
